The stately DB18 Special Empress was based on the same short wheelbase chassis as the Special Sports. There were 608 such chassis produced; 500 are thought to have been Special Sports with Barker coachwork. There were about 95 built on this chassis with the Hooper & Co. Empress coachwork. Some say it was the prettiest of all the Daimler Empress models. Ultimately, the number of different models produced was Daimler's downfall.
