DKW 1000 Monza Le Mans by Massholder 1957
2018 Classic Days Schloss Dyck - Aldenhoven (D)

In the 1950s the DKW 3-cylinder 2-stroke engine was quite popular in motorsport because of its high power output in relation to its displacement. Since DKW didn't make sportscars at the time, 2 German racing drivers developed a fiber glass sportscar body to fit the DKW production car chassis. That became known as the DKW Monza (named after a number of records set with the car at the Monza circuit in 1956).
Around 80 of these cars were made between 1956-1958 in 3 series. Production was cut short by the arrival of the DKW 1000 Sp, a factory built sportscar. This particular car was entered in the Le Mans 24 hour race in 1957.
