Angelo Dagrada was a garage owner from Milan, Italy, who was very active in the Italian autosport scene from the late 1940s up to the 1960s. His best known project was the Dagrada Formula Junior with Lancia Appia engine from 1959. But earlier he was involved in the Italian 750 and 1100 cc racing classes where he earned his reputation as a "speed wizard".
His first 750 cc racing car was built in 1949 for Franco Bordoni, a former fighter pilot ace, and featured a Fiat engine with Siata head and a tubular frame made by Dagrada himself. It was a very light car which proved to be competitive right away. In 1950 Dagrada teamed-up with Bordoni to drive the Mille Miglia race, but unfortunately they didn't finish. Yet in other events Bordoni proved successful and 2 more cars were built after the same design.
Following accidents in 1950 and 1952 Angelo Dagrada had to abandon racing for a number of years but his 750 cc cars continued to race and were further developed up to 1953. Later Dagrada turned to preparing Alfa Romeo cars for racing before developing his Formula Junior car.
The Dagrada 750 Sport shown here is the first chassis made, fitted with a Giannini G1 750 cc engine and restored to the condition in which it was entered in the 1950 Mille Miglia.
