Cunningham Series V-5 Special 1924
2019 Classic Days Schloss Dyck - Aldenhoven (D)

Cunningham from Rochester, New York, USA was a manufacturer of very expensive luxury cars from 1907 till 1931. Most of their cars were stately touring cars and limousines but also a number of sporty roadster and speedster models were built. The Series V model was introduced for the 1917 model year; the "V" indicating the new Cunningham built 7,2 liter V8 engine that powered this model. This series evolved up to the 106 hp Series V-7 in 1928, which was to be the last Cunningham model to be produced. In the economic recession that followed the Wall Street Crash in 1929 sales dwindled and Cunningham turned to coachbuilding, specializing in ambulances and hearses, up to the end in 1937.
There were a number of racing specials built based upon the Cunningham V8, most famously a 1919 special roadster raced by Brian De Palma. The car shown here is a bit more recent and based on the 90 hp Series V-5 chassis.
