Citroen Traction Avant 22/8 replica 1934
2019 Nationale Oldtimerdag - Lelystad (NL)

A lifelike recreation of the illusive 8 cylinder Traction Avant, based on a 1934 Traction Avant 11 A, fitted with a contemporary 3.6 liter Ford V8. The original Traction Avant 22 CV was shown in 1934 at the Paris Motor Show and later that year at the Brussels Motor Show. It was powered by a newly developed 3.8 liter V8, producing around 90 hp. On the outside this model visibly differed from other Traction Avant versions by headlights faired into the front wings and a large "8" in the middle of the grill, among other details.
Some 20 pre-production models were made in various body styles. These cars suffered from overheating and problems with the cv-joints in the front axle. It would take an considerable investment to solve these matters and new owner Michelin decided to abandon the project. In 1935 most of the pre-production cars were converted to regular 11 CV models and subsequently sold off. It's believed that one or two 22 CV cars might have survived and perhaps were scrapped at a later date.
