Mazda Cosmo Sport L10B 1971
2017 Concours d'Elegance Paleis het Loo - Apeldoorn (NL)

A car I haven't seen before but always wanted to, the Mazda Cosmo from Japan. The first Japanese car with a rotary engine after the designs of Felix Wankel. Though what has intrigued me more was its unusual design, kind of inspired by a fantasy space craft (hence the "Cosmo" model name). What surprised me most seeing it in real life was that it was much smaller than I expected. It's actually really tiny.
For a 1971 car its design was really outdated but that's unsurprising since it was first shown in 1963 as a prototype, at the height of the "space race" between the USA and the USSR. After extensive testing the car was taken into production in 1967 (type L10A); in 1968 a second series was introduced (type L10B) which ran to 1972, after which production ended. In all 1519 Cosmos were made, most of them sold in Japan. Some of them were exported as Mazda 110S.
I still think it's one of the prettiest Japanese classics, even if I won't fit in it.
