This one of the 19 lightweight Gullwing models produced with aluminum bodywork. They were made for customers who wanted to go racing with their 300 SL (not to be confused with the preceding 300 SLR which was a thoroughbred racing car). The car shown here was entered in the Italian Mille Miglia road race in 1956 and 1957.
