Marlboro Masters 1998:
The Marlboro Masters of Formula 3 (2/2)
Best Dutch driver was Donny Crevels in a Dallara F397/8 with an Opel-Spiess
engine. Donny competes this year in the Italian series and has already won a few races in
his Prema Powerteam entered car. He wanted desperately to win this race, but had to retire
in fifth place due to electrical problems.
After his retirement the excitement for the Dutch spectators was totally gone with the
rest of the race being kind of a high speed traffic jam.
One of the futile attempts at overtaking: Bernoldi looking at the outside of
Saelens in a left corner.
It's a pity that a potentially exciting race class like formula three lacks that much
spectacle. I think that for securing the popularity and future of this class some rules
have to be changed, resulting in more excitement and overtaking.
One of the few Martini's in the race. This is the Martini MK73/Opel-Spiess
driven by Franck Montagny of the French La Fillière team. Unfortunately the Martini's
were no threat to the dominant Dallara cars.
Close racing by Thomas Jäger (Martini MK73/Opel-Spiess) and Kristian Kolby
(Dallara F397/8/Honda-Mugen).
Sometimes overtaking was possible, especially when someone runs wide at a corner. Here Peter Sundberg makes this mistake and gets passed by two cars.
