Marlboro Masters 1998:
Historic Grand Prix Cars (5/7)
![]()
Big car,
this ERA. Really the sort of car you would think of when you hear about historic racing
cars. This is the car of Martin Walford, who originally entered a Maserati 8CTF.
Just as
the Riley Dixon it's powered by a 2 litre engine. Comparing the two cars the older Riley
looks more modern and certainly a lot more nimble. Even so, this ERA stayed in front of
the more powerful Talbot Lago while the Riley broke down.
Another
ERA, the same type, was entered by David Morris. It looked beautiful, better prepared than
the car of Martin Walford.
(And yes, it's the car in the RitzSite-logo!)
David
put a lot of effort in driving his ERA, he used his whole body. The big steeringwheel
needed a lot of power to turn.
There were to more ERA's entered, a 1934 A-type and a 1938 E-type. They both didn't make
it through the race.
