Ate up with motor - The subtitle "musings on things automotive" gives a good description of this quaintly named site by Aaron Severson. Apart from editorials and news it contains a collection of model histories dealing with all sorts of classic cars. Well written and interesting.

Barchetta - This must be the ultimate site for lovers of exotic Italian cars: a huge collection of beautiful car pictures, all Ferrari and Maserati models by serial number and lots of special features. Unfortunately site maintenance is a bit sloppy and there are lots of ads.

Coachbuilt - Extremely impressive and exhaustive source of information about American coachbuilders and coachbuilding. It contains info about no less than 1200 auto body builders, complete with pictures. Ultimate goal is to present this info in a book but for now all this info is directly accessible through this site. Simple but effective presentation and a must-see for anyone interested in car history.

Historicke automobily - Have you ever heard of marques like Aero, Praga or Laurin & Klement? These are all part of the rich Czech car manufacturing history. Undeservedly this history is overlooked by most car enthusiasts these days, but fortunately this site reclaims it from obscurity. It's wonderfully elaborate with complete model overviews of all Czech manufacturers and numerous pictures, both historic and recent.

QV500 - A commercial site dedicated to selling exclusive sports cars but with very interesting and in-depth articles called "car guides" and an elaborate De Tomaso registry which is worth a visit by itself. Site editor Ben Tyer proves that even commercial car sites can be valuable sources of information.

Belles d'Antan - A site by Claude Rozier containing a large collection of pictures from the "golden age of motoring", mainly (but not only) the period 1920-1940, both original and scanned. The site is frequently updated and very enjoyable.

HupcapCafe - A site filled with hundreds of classic car pictures taken at car shows, sorted by make and event, presented by Ken and Tom Bogren. With a focus on the U.S. classic car scene it's all very well organized and completed by an events calendar. Warmly recommended!

Traumautoarchiv - An increasing number of car enthusiasts are putting their photo collections on the Internet and this site is another great example. A huge number of original photos taken at car shows and events have been painstakingly categorized by make and model and are effectively presented to the visitor. This must have been a lot of work; impressive!

a2z Racer - An elaborate online biography of racing driver Tony Adamowicz by Gary Wheeler. Lots of information and pictures from the US and international racing scene from the 1960s till the 1980s. Very well done.

Bruce McLaren Trust - The successful McLaren F1 team takes its name from Bruce McLaren, a famous racing driver from New Zealand who died at the wheel in 1970. Before this tragic event however he had started his own racing team, complete with factory. This factory not only constructed single seaters for formula racing but also sportscars, of which the McLaren Can-Am sportscars are most famous. The Bruce McLaren Trust recalls both the man and the classic McLaren team and the site offers an insight in both. Especially the overview of McLaren cars is interesting.

Tam's Old Race Car Site - A site dedicated to sportscar racing in California during 1958-1963 with a collection of original pictures from that era. A special aspect is the focus on drivers and their cars rather than makes and races in general. Very nice portrait of an era when enthusiasm evolved into professionalism.

Pre War Car - An online magazine about oldtimers from before 1940. Next to frequently refreshed editorials it offers a usually very hard "mystery car" competition and a large overview of cars for sale. Interesting because of the often unique or forgotten cars that are featured.

The Bruce Weiner Microcar Museum - Perhaps the most unlikely museum of all: a collection of classic micro and bubble cars from Europe located in the country that likes its cars large, the US of A. The elaborate virtual tour of the museum available on the site is recommended and an example to others.

Austin Rover: Austin Rover Online - With the demise of Austin Rover an enormous chunk of the British car industry has disappeared. Austin Rover Online keeps the memory alive and features an in-depth coverage of the history, the company and the cars. Effective design, frequent updates and lots of info makes this a site worth visiting.

Bizzarrini: Bizzarrini register - Pleasant and complete site dealing with this self-willed sportscar manufacturer. Both the history of the man and that of his cars are covered in a sequential style, complete with pictures. Interesting and a nice design but hard to read because of the small script.

Ford: GT40-1012 - Webmaster Yves Saguato is a lucky man, he has a wonderful site and he is the owner of an original Ford GT40 Mk IIs. His site describes all aspects of his car and the GT40 (competition) history in general, garnished with lots of pictures of this great sports car.

Frua: Pietro Frua (1913-1983) - This site is not really about a make or a model but about Italian designer and coachbuilder Pietro Frua. It painstakingly explores practically all bodywork designs of Frua chronologically with numerous pictures and illustrations. A very elaborate piece of work, each coach builder should have a site like this. There's also an overview of the work of less known coach builder Italsuisse.

Ghia Aigle: Carrosserie Ghia Aigle - Ghia was a traditional Italian coachbuilder but it also had a branch in Switzerland which was named after its location in Aigle. It was run as a separate company and lasted until 1988. Stefan Dierkes presents a compact but informative site showing the elegant designs that were made by this Swiss company.

Matford: Toutes les Matford - Instead of founding a new factory in France, Ford decided to team up with the old and established marque Mathis and so Matford was born. Learn about this almost forgotten piece of car history by visiting this site, showing all Matford models from 1934 to 1939 with pictures and info. A nice concise but complete site.

Mathis: Automobiles Mathis - Mathis was the French manufacturer that took up Ford production and became Matford. But before that the company enjoyed an interesting history as well. This site by Francis Roll lists all Mathis vehicles with pictures, technical data and short descriptions. Plain but effective and informative.

Rolls-Royce: Rolls Royce and Bentley Photos - An electronic presentation of the Roßfeldt Archives, a major source for Rolls-Royce and Bentley information. Contains pictures and descriptions of each model ever built. Interesting and comprehensive.

Simca: Simca by Facel - Most Simca models were mass produced and affordable but in the first decade after the second World War there were also some special models with bodywork by coachbuilder Facel (of Facel Vega fame). These models were sport coupés and cabriolets which were rarely seen outside of France. The French Simca by Facel club presents a site with of lots of information, articles and pictures covering all these special models. Complete and varied but a slightly chaotic impression.

Steyr: Zuckerfabrik24 - Outside of Austria not many people may have heard of the vehicles made by this manufacturer but it does have a long history and is still active today. Ferdinand Lanner looks back at the cars, trucks and tractors made by Steyr since 1919 on his "sugar factory" site. There are plenty of pictures and brochure images accompanied by concise but interesting descriptions, divided over the various production models. On this site there is also a nice overview of Fiat history executed in the same style.

Stutz: Stutz Cars history and models - This website by Peter Madle concentrates on the Virgil Exner designed "revival" Stutz models which were made during 1968-1995 rather then the original pre-war models. It features a complete overview with lots of pictures and a registry. There is also a seperate segment about all sorts of exotic and rare cars. Very entertaining.

Vignale: Registro Vignale - Small but interesting site about Italian coachbuilder Vignale, which later became a manufacturer in its own right. The site contains a concise history and an overview of the various bodies constructed by Vignale arranged by make of chassis. Simple and enjoyable but incomplete.

Voisin: Automobiles Avions Voisin - Enthusiasts site concerning the avant-garde cars of Gabriel Voisin. Practically all of the Voisin models are depicted and described, including some derivatives. Concise but an interesting piece of work given the rarity of these cars.
